Happy Hour: Long Island Iced Tea

After finding this recipe for a Long Irish Iced Tea a few weeks ago, I had the hankering for the strong, original cocktail that has inspired so many variations. These highballs are great for Summer sippin', but don't let the name fool you: Long Island Iced Tea isn't actually made with tea. It was most likely named because of its resemblance to tea and lemony flavor.

This dangerous drink is a combination of vodka, rum, triple sec, gin, and tequila, so it's handy if you're moving and need to empty the liquor cabinet. The combination of booze, plus sweet and sour mix and a splash of cola, goes down surprisingly easily. To get the recipe,

1 part gin
1 part triple sec
1 1/2 parts sweet and sour mix

mm so tasty but so freakin DANGEROUS!!! The last time I had one of these was after Paul Okenfold at the filmore the last thing I remember was walking past the church after the show. I woke up with a black eye I think I might have gotten in a fight with a bush but we will never know!!! See children this is why we dont drink these in public anymore (maybe at home since I have few bushes!!! lol)

I remember when these first came out in the 80's. The place I worked at served them either in a big glass beer type stein glass or in a pitcher with a big straw. People would get soooo wasted. Several years later they quit making a pitcher an option.
