Have You Ever Dined & Dashed?

Have You Ever Dined & Dashed?

As you may have heard, Ms. Tyra got herself into a wee bit of dine & dash trouble the other day and the whole thing got me wondering: have you ever dined & dashed? I haven't, first of all Jimmy would kick my butt if I even tried, and secondly my conscience would probably haunt me forever, but there was a time when service was so terrible and the food ungodly that I definitely thought about it... How about you? Have you ever dined & dashed?

When I went to my Junior prom, my date decided he was going to dine-and-dash at the fancy Italian restaurant we went to. I was throughly disgusted with him, and ditched him as soon as we got to prom.

I did once in high school, not on purpose at all. My friend and I just both totally blanked on paying the bill - it was a place where you had to go up to the counter to pay, and we just walked out without even thinking about it. We only realized it later that day. We should have gone back to pay, but we were too embarrassed and scared of getting in trouble.

Tyra was on the view talking about this on Thursday. Sounds like a pretty embarassing story!

There have been several occasions where I would like to just leave the restaurant in protest but never actually gone through with it. Now there have been times where we were served soft drinks and then been ignored and we left. I dont consider that dashing.

Hell yeah I've done that. It was in high-school at a Denny's. There were 4 of us studying for finals so we each got milkshakes and split a side order of fries. I think we needed the craziness after all the stress of studying! "Party like a rock star, pound like a porn star, play like an all star!"

A funny thing happened to me a few weeks ago when I was with my family at a restaurant we go to quite a lot. When the bill came at the end of our meal, my father asked our young waitress to break a $100 bill as part of the payment, thinking that she would keep the money that covered the dinner. So she went, but she brought the WHOLE change back, and my dad didn't look carefully enough, so all he did was leave a tip and leave, because he assumed that the bill was taken care of. So we are in the parking lot and we were about to leave and the waitress comes out saying that we didn't pay, so right there in the car my dad explained what he expected. But he apologized and paid the bill properly before we drove off. It was an accident, but at the same time we've never experienced a server to bring back the entire change instead of keeping the leftover money for the meal. But all's well that ends well.

I was in high school and we got busted. the waitress wrote down the license plate number, called the DMV, called by boy friend's father. her called us. WE went back and paid with our teenage tails between our legs. so embarrassed. needless to say, i never did it again.

I've forgotten to tip a couple of times and felt terrible. I went back and tipped later.

Okay, here's my story. My bf and I and another couple went to this restaurant/bar that serves all you can eat crablegs on Friday nights. They are definitely not the best, but I live in a small podunk town and that's all that is available. The cost is $17.99. When we finally got a seat (and there were empty tables, just no one was seating anyone)we ordered drinks and looked at the menu. It took like 10 minutes for the waitress to bring our drinks and take our order. Then it took forever to get our food. We ordered more drinks when they finally brought the food. We never got our drinks. I ordered the crab legs and they give you a tiny tiny portion of them. But they are all you can eat, so no biggie. Except the waitress never came back so I could get more. It had gotten really really busy by this time. I mean we never even saw a waitress/waiter to even get their attention. We stayed for a bit, but then just decided it wasn't worth it and to leave. So, no waitress to bring the check or anything. We went inside and stood by the bar, my boyfriend even had his wallet out. We waited and waited and no one would acknowledge us. So, we just walked out. No one even tried to stop us. I kinda feel bad about that, but kinda not. I recently heard the restaurant is under new management now, but I'm still not sure if I gonna try it again. Truly Outrageous, Daisy Mae

I have once. In Spain. The waiter insulted Americans and we (my roommate Elizabeth and I) told him we wanted the bill and sat their waiting for twenty minutes. So we walked out. But we only had two beers and some potato chips outside.

i used to be a waitress/server and once, well these people didn't dine and dash, but the guy took my tip! i thought he was just looking at it or adding more when he opened the book. after SHE paid! and he left his wallet and i ran out to give it to them and he looked at me shocked, and i only found out why when i got back and saw it was gone!

I did it once, and now I'll try to justify it. My boyfriend and I left our university campus together for a lunch break before our next classes, we finished eating and mind you the restaurant was practically empty and we waited almost 20 minutes for our bill, out waitress was no where in sight and I had a test I had to be back at school for and was on the verge of being late. Needless to say we left. That was the only time Ive ever done that. phew I feel better!

I could never. I worry that the server will be fired or have to pay for my meal out of their own pocket. I have had to leave before, go get money, and come back.

ugh my complaint is when you have to wait to pay for your meal upwards of 20 minutes. I hate bad service, but I just can't bring myself to not pay for my meal.

I've never done it, but have been totally tempted to on a few occasions. I have sat down at restaurants before and been so turned off by either their rude service (before the food had been served or my order had been taken) or unappetizing menu, that I've gotten up and left. That's why I always look at the menu beforehand now!
