Hell's Kitchen - 3.2 Recap

Hell's Kitchen - 3.2 Recap

On this week's episode of Hell's Kitchen, the heat was turned up as the contestants were once again taught the importance of masterfully learning basic culinary skills. Last week it was all about frying the perfect egg and this week it was all about prepping fish. The show started off with the girls in turmoil from the recent elimination of team member Tiffani, and the boys united in their concern for the weakest link in their team, Aaron. Both teams are woken before 6am to "go catch fish." Excitement quickly melts into annoyance as Ramsay's cronies throw whole, frozen fish at the wannabe chefs from a truck. To see what happens when things turn a little fishy in Hell's Kitchen, including my fav Ramsay quotes of the week,

The boy's team starts to slowly fall apart with Eddie, the little guy, enduring countless fish jokes and pressure from Ramsay and his team to get big and take control. Aaron suffers from severe cramping while transporting the fish and ends up spending the majority of the day passed out on the couch. After demonstrating how to skin and de-roe the expensive, yet delicious Dover sole, Ramsay gives the teams thirty minutes to prep as many fish as they can. The skinned fish have to meet Ramsay's high standards before he declares the dover sole, either (think Heidi in Project Runway here) in or out. The boys end up with 8 Dovers that are in and the girls win with 9 Dovers that are in. They are rewarded with a fishing trip on the Pacific, lunch on the boat, and some alone time with Ramsay, who gives the team a little pep talk. Is it me or is good old Gordon starting to get on my good side?? Maybe he is just a grumpy teddy bear who likes to yell?

The real challenge begins when the teams are put back in the kitchen for their second chance at a dinner service. As part of the boy's punishment, Ramsay picks Aaron to fillet, debone, and serve the Dover sole tableside. Eddie can't make spaghetti nor risotto and Aaron sweats his way through the job, taking more than 15 minutes to debone the fish. By this time the fish is cold and the customer unhappy. The girl's glide along, taking the tips from Ramsay and actually work as a team, cheering one another on. The crowd is pleased with the girl's appetizers and they serve the majority of their main courses. The boys continue to fail and the straw that breaks Ramsay's back (and a few plates) is Josh who can't find the right balance of cooked pastry to raw meat in his beef Wellington. Ramsay kicks the boys out of the kitchen and has the girls finish the dinner service.

It's obvious the boys are the losing team, and Ramsay picks Rock to nominate two of the boys for elimination. Surprisingly easy on cry baby Aaron, Rock chooses Eddie and Josh. In the end, Ramsay asks Eddie, the small guy who couldn't come out of his shell, to hang up his chef's coat.

And now my favorite part of Hell's Kitchen: the Ramsayisms. Here are my top 5 quotes from last night's episode:

  • "Don't look so unhappy about it... Are you dizzy? Would you like a tissue?"
  • "What in the f**k is Aaron doing in Hell's Kitchen? Get that f**king donkey outta there. You're in the dining room shaking hands like the f**king president of the United States of America, what was that all about?"
  • "Are you a dumb blonde? ...f**king barbie"
  • "All of you taste it. It's inedible, it's way too peppery and you wouldn't even serve it to a f**king pig"
  • "I think you are one big fake full of piss and wind."
  • I have to get this off my chest, it has nothing to do with food: What was up with the girls running around the house in hot pants??? How could they not realize that the boys were asking them to "pick up this" and "get that" in order to check out more of their womanly assets??

I love this show but the cast keeps getting more and more incredulous. The first season ROCKED, the second season was unbearable, and this season promises to be interesting but it has some seriously flaky chicks. Me, I'm rooting for Melissa! She reminds me a lot of Heather from Season 2.

Bonnie was aiming for camera time, obviously and she knew what she was doing. What a dumb broad. I couldn't beleieve Aaron didn't get kicked off? What a waste - I feel bad for the guy, but he just can't hack it. No WAY could he run his own restaurant. : / It's still too early in the season to tell, but my early picks for the win are Melissa or Josh. They seem to be able to handle themselves the best in the kitchen. I think josh will be a volatile contestant though. He might be the one who causes the crazy explosion and mutiny later on in the season.

Get Aaron out of the kitchen! He is probably there to boost ratings.

I'm with everyone on wondering why(?) is Aaron still on the show, what a baby! When they sign up to do a show, why do some people act so stupid!??

I stand corrected. The original UK version has jsut been on hold for quite a while now. Should be getting a new season this summer. Although Ramsey doesn't host it.

I think Bonnie DID know the guys were trying to check out her ass. That's why she wore the short shorts in the first place. Come on, you're telling me you wouldn't try to get with Josh or Rock? ...Not that I would have been as slutty about it, but still...she knew exactly what she was doing. And I liked Eddie! I didn't think he should have gone home. He seemed to hold up his own pretty well- the other guys made just as many mistakes as him.

Aaron really needed to go home. It's not fair to the other guys who are actually TRYING. I think Ramsey should have sent him home instead. I was surprised to see Josh up there, I agree that if you're given the opportunity you should try to eliminate some of your competition but come on now, Rock should realize that the men will never win anything as long as Aaron is still on his team! was SHOCKED to see Aaron smoking. Joanna bugs me to death, I wish she had gone home last week. That has to be the earliest a team completed a dinner service. I don't remember it happening for at least a few episodes last season but I'm not sure.

Lol that one girl Bonnie was rediculous. It was like, "Hunny, he can get that by himself. He just wants to see your ass." I mean really!

If Aaron was the one that was deboning my dover sole, and sweat was dripping off of his face, like buddha in a bath house, I would have immediately walked out. the "i just passed out for a second" and "i feel dizzy" excuses are about as valid as the Fat girls excuses for not playing volleyball in my high school gym class, its him being scared and using anything he has to get sympathy. He so needs to go! I admit little Eddie needed to go also, Like that shrimp would ever get any respect in any kitchen!

I think so, too. Rock lost a lot of my respect. The whole point in the beginning is to get rid of the weak so your kitchen can win the challenges - not leave yourself with a bunch of losers. That Guy Just Pissed Me Off. (Aaron) - Why cry and threaten to go home (and what was that - Pity Me Anorexia!? "I'm not gonna eat cuz I want to run for you guys" - then DO SOMETHING!) - THEN he tells Rock he'd like to stay!? WHY!? We all see the preview of next time...he's just a mess!Barbie - totally a hoe. But I was really proud of the girls in the end! Notice how every service is always "The worse service in Hell's Kitchen history" - but nobody commented on the rockin job the girls did - which I'm pretty sure is a record. I'm done now. Thank you.

I was rolling my eyes when Barbie, I mean Bonnie, was walking around in her undies. Im just hoping it was a bathing suit bottom... I think Rock is a moron for calling out Josh and Eddie. Eddie deserved it, but Josh? He is moderately skilled and it was a strategy move for sure. I think its unwise to make that play so early in the game, and Ramsay most likely will lose respect for Rock's choice. Along those lines, how did Chef not call Aaron to step forward? He should have overridden Rock's choice (as Ramsay has done with chefs in the past) and booted Aaron. His sweating and crying is pissing me off.
