The Scary Reason Hostess Recalled These Twinkies

Jan 14 2017 - 1:00pm

If you treated yourself to a box of White Peppermint Twinkies over the holidays, it's time to return them ASAP. Hostess is voluntarily recalling the treats after learning that Blommer Chocolate Company (who made the coating on the Twinkies) has recalled milk powder ingredients included in the coating due to a concern about a possible salmonella risk.

The recall only applies to the "White Peppermint Hostess Twinkies" (UPC 888109111571) and were sold in packs of nine. Although no reports of illness have been reported and none of the Twinkies have tested positive for salmonella, it's always better to be on the safe side.

Salmonella is a serious illness that can sometimes lead to fatal infections in children and the elderly. According to the FDA [1] healthy people can experience "fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain."

Check your cupboard and make sure to return the products to where you purchased them for a full refund.
