How To Make Pumpkin Pie Spice

Make Your Own Pumpkin Pie Spice

For years I thought pumpkin pie spice was a special spice — only recently did I realize it's actually a spice blend. And, like any spice blend, be it herbs de Provence or a rub for barbecue, pumpkin pie spice is easy to make. Why waste a couple of bucks buying it when you already have the ingredients in your pantry?! All you have to do is stir together ground ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg and voila! You can use it throughout the holiday season. To get the simple recipe, keep reading.

Hey it me again, almost a year later - Yes, it's true over the weekend I searched for this (cause I was making applesauce) and found 3 different varieties on a site called sparkpeople and they are all different from the ones you have posted here. So I guess there is no gold standard for pumpkin pie/applepie spice. They called it by both names.

I mix batches of this blend, with a pinch or two of cloves, then send little jars of this to friends and family around the first of November so they are all set for the holidays. :)

Yeah, I've always used all the spices individually when I make pumpkin pie. I also use a pinch of cloves when I make mine.

I agree, I like cloves in my pumpkin pie as well. And it is hard for me to find ground ginger.

I didn't realize that anyone actually used the premade pumpkin pie spice. That would be the biggest sin in the world in my house. Oy.

Good to know! I can't get pumpkin pie spice where I live, so it's nice to know I can make it myself. :)
