Let's Dish: What Foods Remind You of Being a Kid?

Last weekend, for the first time in a long time, I made the trek out to the Chinese supermarket to buy some Asian ingredients. While in my favorite aisle — the snack aisle, of course — I spotted these Butter Coconut Cookies. I hadn't seen them in years, but immediately I had memories of being in my hometown's Asian grocery store, circa 1985, making the weekly shopping rounds with my mother. Right then, I knew I had to buy them! What foods make you nostalgic for your childhood?

What my kids are looking for are cookies that used to be called either "Fiddle Sticks" or, as they remember, "Flick Flacks," though not sure about the spelling. The only ones we remember were made by Mother's but I believe they haven't been made for some years.

Kool aid. Tomato soup. Hot dogs. Grilled cheese sandwiches. That kind of thing. There were also brownies with powdered sugar my grandmother used to make. Believe it or not even pickles since my mom and my grandmother used to make them fresh and keep them in big crocks. I could make a longer list but those first things come to mind.

The first thing that comes to mind is fruit snacks like fruit roll-ups, fruit by the foot, gushers, sodalicious etc. These among many other foods :)

Thanksgiving dinner is one for me too. We made all of it for each holiday, and sometimes just for fun. It never got old, and we still do it. I looooooove it. orange push pops, fruit salad with cantelope, watermelon, and honeydew and nothing else, and shepherds pie.

ButterRum lifesavers(grandma's treat),Keebler Munch'ems(discontinued), Yoohoo, and everytime my mom makes a traditional arab dish, it reminds me of being a little kid when we used to eat it a lot more. Always brings back the feel good memories and comfort.

Oatmeal Creme Pies, Schwan's ice cream bars, Cookie Crisp cereal, Moon Pies, Kool Aid, and my grandma's apple fritters. Those were foods we were allowed to eat only when we were at Grandma's house, so they were a treat. Also, those peanut squares...little squares of cake covered with lots of white cream frosting and peanuts. My mom would buy a box of them and let me have one and she'd eat the other three, lol.
