Let's Dish: What Kitchen Tool Do You Hate?

Let's Dish: What Kitchen Tool Do You Hate?

If I had to pick one kitchen tool to banish from the earth forever, I would select this standing cheese grater. It simply does not make sense to me, and every time I find myself grating cheese while using a standing cheese grater, I curse the creator. I feel so much better now that I've got that off my chest. I highly recommend you do the same: tell me, what kitchen tool drives you insane?

I love my salad shooter, grates without a hand grater, no more bloody knuckles. I hate the garlic press, so hard to clean and mine doesn't seem to do the job well. I tried using a handheld grater like Rachel Ray uses for garlic but didn't work so I threw it out.

Can opener. Hate all kinds of can openers.

The box kind of grater. I can't clean it without nicking myself when I wash the inside, or destroying the sponge/cloth/whatever I'm using.

I'd rather use my crappy grater than my food processor. That thing is a real trial to clean!

Ugh! I totally agree, at least with those kind of graders. They are so awkward to hold over a plate or bowl. A stand up is such a better choice. I love cheese!!!

Garlic mincers or whatever they're called. The ones where you put the clove of garlic in and then basically crush it to death. They're such a waste. Smashing it with a knife and then mincing it up is much cleaner and less wasteful.

A combination of several things already mentioned, but the most infuriating is dull tin openers that just slide off the friggin tin (when will all tins have that easy open pull attachment?!!) and dull peelers - I don't mind graters, and grated cheese has not place in my life, so sadly I can't relate.

There is something to be said about buying packaged grated cheese.

i'm dying for one of those rotating graters at olive garden - saw some on amazon for under $20. pricey for a tool, but maybe worth it - has anybody used them before?i actually hate any plastic cooking utensils. i swear i can taste the plastic in the food - even if it's not used in hot/warm things.

I'm not a grater hater, I use a box grater almost every day. I totally agree with fuzzles - dull knives and I'm not good at sharpening them so I must call the hubby for assistant. That drives me nuts.

The stand up graters are way better--I think OXO makes a good one. I can't think of a tool that I have that I hate, but my mother in law had a 1970s electric can opener that was such a pain to use, that I got her a nice crank one--and she loves it.

I'm right there with you on the grater. I also would add dull vegetable peelers that don't work well.

As for me, that grater in the picture takes the cake. In fact, my old grater was cracked just like that. :) Needless to say, I don't own that grater anymore.

You beat me to it, Party! I hate, hate, hate graters. Especially the box kind. I am dying for one of those food processors with a grater attachment so I never have to grate potatoes again, ever.
