Memorial Day Eats

Let's Dish: What'd You Eat Over Memorial Day Weekend?

I don't know about you, but I've still got a hangover of sorts from the massive amount of good food I ate this Memorial Day weekend. On Friday, I hit up the San Francisco Michelin-starred La Folie lounge, where I grazed all night on truffled popcorn, smoked salmon lollipops, and lobster mac and cheese. Saturday morning was the perfect day for a long city stroll and some dim sum, which I paired with milk tea tapioca. On Sunday, I cooked up pasta with kale and walnut pesto, and on the Memorial Day holiday itself, the grill was my friend. We chowed down on curry-spiced burgers with cucumber yogurt and a side of Guy Fieri's four-bean relish. It was my first Guy Fieri recipe, and I'm happy to say that it turned out to be a solid one.

What did you eat over the long holiday weekend?

@Elka Karl I'm a MN girl and I love me some beer brats with sauerkraut. YUM.

Pork, pork, and more pork. Pork Butt, Pork Belly, and Pork Ribs. The mister has a huge smoker so he was busy the day before and the day of. I made a kale slaw for a side, there were beans, and I also made Thomas Keller's recipe for Blueberry Cobbler. Deeeelish!

Some of my food and drink highlights from the long weekend included chocolate cream pie at Wayfare Tavern, a fresh crab appetizer at McCormick & Kuleto's, and an amazing cocktail my friend made with champagne, cucumbers, mint, and St. Germain liqueur — so refreshing!

I gorged myself on grilled goodies at a few barbecues, then brewed up a batch of homemade Memorial Day chili!

So, I'm from WI, so any sort of Summer holiday event usually involves beer brats. You boil bratwurst in onions and beer, then grill them. Apply generous amounts of saurkraut, too, of course!. They are seriously good (even the skeptics were won over at a party yesterday).

I actually had a LOT of Mexican food over the weekend. The most memorable was the chili con queso from tacolicioussf ! This Texan has missed her queso living in California!

We got grilling on Saturday! Delicious artichokes to kick off the meal, simple salmon with butter and dill, plus tons of veggies.
