This Is How a True Southern Chef Makes Meatloaf

Mesa, AZ, Restaurant Il Vinaio Serves Controversial Lion Meat Hamburger For World Cup

Would You Eat Lion Meat?

Not content to simply throw a global tapas-themed party for the World Cup, Cameron Selogie, owner of Il Vinaio restaurant in Mesa, AZ, has been serving customers a limited-edition South Africa-themed burger made from lion meat.

The burger, which the Phoenix-area restaurant is charging $21 for, is actually a mixture of lion meat and ground beef. Since lions are a protected — and dwindling — species in Africa, animal rights activists have predictably been flooding the restaurant with angry calls, emails, and even bomb threats.

Selogie claims that his meat came from a free-range farm in Illinois that's been approved by the USDA. "Frankly, I'm a little shocked with all the problems in the world today, with the oil spill and immigration, that people have this much time to talk about 10 pounds of lion meat," he said. Yet rumors are swirling about the legitimacy of the Illinois lion farm. I'm not satisfied by Selogie's answer and think the idea sounds gross. What about you?

Except for snappers (which are no longer hunted anyway), Ontario's turtles are ALL either endangered or threatened and most are protected from ownership... http://www.kawarthaturtle.org/species.htmlI have been vegetarian for 17 years, vegan for 1, and have done a thorough amount of research on the subject. My opinion that we shouldn't eat meat is based on a great deal of research, however it is still just my opinion. I'm no doctor, just a human with a tiny smidgen of common sense and compassion :)

Re the above comment--most North American turtles and frogs are protected or endangered. How can that site sell them for food? I guess you can farm frogs, but almost all turtles are endangered so this can't possibly be legal. Humans aren't supposed to eat meat anyways. We have more characteristics in common with herbivores than we do with omnivores. I wish more of us realized that so people like this lion-cooking freak would go out of business and be appropriately heckled in the streets :)

I think the people who said yes should have to suck down a human burger. Tell me how cool that would be. After all we aren't endangered and what's the difference then? It's like all other meat right? It's probably healthier if you kill someone who eats right and exercises.

Well of course I would not eat it! It's from an animal nearly extinct even if from a "farm." Novelty food is just that.. for money and status not for the real sake of health/diet or care of breeding an animal. Ashamed.
