Poll: Do You Cook Calamari at Home?
Do You Cook Calamari at Home?
May 1 2009 • By
pre-veg, calamari was my FAV!
Yeah, now that you mention it, I am surprised I've never thought to make it. I'm obsessed with calamari. I guess it always seemed easier to order it.
Best place to find it? asian markets in the frozen food section! I buy it and its already cleaned, and i just have to thaw it and fry it up!
it is soo easy to make at home!
"Many groceries carry frozen, pre-cleaned squid in their seafood section." Not true. I've tried 5 stores.
Cook these at home? Hells no.
Yes, heads are my fav and hubby does the prep work. Can't beat that!
If you shared the recipe for the above image I'll definitely try to make it at home!
Never tried making it at home, but I'd definitely be up for the challenge.
If the restaurant menu has it, I'm definitely ordering it. I personally can't cook to save my life. If any one is in the Chicago area, I recommend Kuma's corner for the calamari, the sauce is to die for.
partysugar, once you do, we want details!! :)
I don't make the deep fried stuff at home (lack of a deep fryer and ventilation system), but I do make squid stir fries.
I thought about it for a sec and I don't want to turn you first-timers off from trying to cook it at home. I made pepper-salted squid which required me to deep fry and quickly pan fry it. I think the deep frying was what made my house so smelly. That and all of the garlic. :)
brief excerpts from a blog post I wrote on the subject: Many groceries carry frozen, pre-cleaned squid in their seafood section. It is tasty, inexpensive, and environmentally-friendly. More people should cook it at home. Many people are afraid of cooking squid, thinking that it will get tough and chewy. The trick to avoiding this is simple: either cook it very briefly or cook it for a long time.
i found a great recipe online for it with ponzu sauce japanese style... but the squid prep is not very fun 'o' maybe 2x a year
Yes, I've made it before and it came out great EXCEPT for the smell! You need to have an industrial fan or good ventilation otherwise your house will reek of it! Now I prefer to go out for squid.
I couldn't make it if I wanted to...I can't find it in any grocery store near me. I'm not a huge fan of it, so I don't really mind that I can't make it at home.
Hmmm. Now that I think about it, I can't remember ever making it at home. You know what that means: time to give it a try!
nope - i don't eat calamari (or any fish for that matter)
No fair?! How can you post such a yummy pic and not have a recipe ready for me? Meanie, lol.
None of the above!!! I LOVE calamari, but don't know HOW to cook it at home :)
We can't find it anywhere. So no, we don't.
I've never made it at home but I'd be up for trying it. I LOVE calamari!
