Popeyes, Jack in the Box Start Offering Healthful Menu Options

Healthy Fast Food: Love It or Hate It?

Healthful Southern food may sound like a paradox, but for Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, it's now a reality. The Atlanta-based fast food chain has just launched a new, diet-friendly "Louisiana Leaux — Get up & Geaux!" menu, with a focus on foods that contain fewer calories, less fat, and lower sodium.

On the menu: a meal of seasoned chicken tenders, green beans, and toasted baguette roll; a chicken wrap made with a cheese tortilla, chicken tenders, lettuce, and pickles; a chicken tender po' boy baguette with barbecue sauce, lettuce, and pickles; and a new kids meal, with naked chicken tenders, applesauce, toasted baguette roll, and no-calorie drink.

Popeyes follows other fast food companies, such as McDonald's, Burger King, and Jack in the Box, who've recently opted to offer more nutritious items such as fruit sides on their menus. Do you welcome this change, or does it seem like a contradictory move to you?

I have yet to find something on a fast food menu that I would call "healthy." Highly-processed maybe. Chemical-full, yes. Or sodium bomb. But not healthy.

I love variety and so the more options, the better. To be honest though, unlike the posters above, I HATE eating in a hurry or fast - I will just skip that meal, have some fruit/raw veg/cup of gazpacho as a snack and then eat my next meal earlier. But I can't, and won't rush my meal.

I think that's what frustrates me most about a lot of quick style food options, be it fast food restaurants or the frozen meals in supermarkets...or even from Trader Joes). They're LOADED with sodium. As for this article...I agree with KeLynns too. Let me make the decision between the healthy meal or the gut buster.

I agree with KeLynns 100%. I would LOVE it if more restaurants would cut down drastically on the amount of sodium used. I don't eat much fast food food for that very reason. But, sometimes you just need a Crunch Wrap from Taco Hell, even if the consequence is having to pound copious amounts of water for the next 12-24 hours!

I'm so confused why anyone would vote "hate." The point of fast food is not to be crap - the point is to be FAST. If I need food on the go, I shouldn't be required to eat crap. I'm not saying fast food places should *only* serve healthy stuff because sometimes you just need a burger and fries. But what does anyone have against a healthy *option*? 90% of the time when I eat fast food, it's not because I'm having a burger craving. It's because I don't have much time to get something to eat.
