Recap Second Episode Top Chef Vegas

Top Chef Vegas: Episode 2

With Top Chef Masters officially over we can finally turn our attention to getting to know the 16 remaining chefs on Top Chef Vegas. The second episode aired last night and after watching, I've come to several conclusions. Mike might be the world's biggest douche, Kevin's beard and Jesse's lip ring are distracting, and Jennifer scares me. To discuss all the delicious details,

.

  1. Todd English: hot or not?
  2. Re: Jennifer — Does a female have to be mean and tough to succeed as a chef?
  3. Do you enjoy the behind-the-scenes videos Bravo airs during the commercials?
  4. My favorite line: "It's true, gay guys grow flowers better than straight guys." What quote stood out in your mind?
  5. Was Ashley being too sensitive or does she have a right to be offended?
  6. Isn't it weird that the bachelor/ette parties are in the exact same place?
  7. Did the producers choose the boys vs. girls challenge because they knew it was easy drama? The boys put down the girls, the girls put down the boys. The boys think they are better, the girls think they are better. The boys act stupid and jump in the pool, the girls act superior and annoyed. It seemed scripted.
  8. That being said, don't the boys' dishes seem way more sophisticated than the girls?
  9. Could the brothers make it to the final three?
  10. Overall, how do you feel about this season so far?

Did I forget something? Please bring up more discussion points below!

1. Todd English: hot or not? Pretty hot. 2. Re: Jennifer — Does a female have to be mean and tough to succeed as a chef? No. I hate her fucking guts. She is so annoying and shows no emotion except when she does a scary chuckle. 3. Do you enjoy the behind-the-scenes videos Bravo airs during the commercials? Yes! 4. My favorite line: "It's true, gay guys grow flowers better than straight guys." What quote stood out in your mind? None of them did. 5. Was Ashley being too sensitive or does she have a right to be offended? She was being way too sensitive! Gay people can get married in some states and I believe it will slowly be all states. Who cares anyway? A lot of people are ditching marriage anyway. 6. Isn't it weird that the bachelor/ette parties are in the exact same place? Not for Top Chef. It made sense to me to do it together on a show where it isn't really about you as much as you think it is. It is also about the contestants. 7. Did the producers choose the boys vs. girls challenge because they knew it was easy drama? The boys put down the girls, the girls put down the boys. The boys think they are better, the girls think they are better. The boys act stupid and jump in the pool, the girls act superior and annoyed. It seemed scripted. - I don't think the producers did it for drama and if they did then they failed. 8. That being said, don't the boys' dishes seem way more sophisticated than the girls? It did but then again the men were cooking for girls while the women were cooking for guys who wanted "manly" food. 9. Could the brothers make it to the final three? I don't think so. 10. Overall, how do you feel about this season so far? It is good. A lot of the people annoy me. They act like they've never seen Top Chef before.

I don't mind someone being upset over something, but it just all seemed so fake and contrived. Plus, she's so stoic it was almost comical when said she was "fired up." I mean, really? that's your fired up?

Isn't it weird that the bachelor/ette parties are in the exact same place? Yeah that was weird. 7. Did the producers choose the boys vs. girls challenge because they knew it was easy drama? The boys put down the girls, the girls put down the boys. The boys think they are better, the girls think they are better. The boys act stupid and jump in the pool, the girls act superior and annoyed. It seemed scripted. Yeah I didnt like this challenge idea. 8. That being said, don't the boys' dishes seem way more sophisticated than the girls? They did. 9. Could the brothers make it to the final three? Maybe..theyre pretty good. 10. Those in-between commercial extras are just an excuse for Bravo to cram more ads into breaks. I am not a fan. They should reduce the additional ads after the extra to one per extra. It would be neat for quickfire winners to choose between the $15K chip or immunity. (Although most would probably choose the latter.) It would be fitting given they are in Las Vegas.

1. he's not my type but i can understand why some people think that he is 2. um....NOPE. that's what gives women bad names sometimes 3. i think that it's a nice new touch actually. 4. that one was GREAT - just like the spike-isms from the past 5. i think that it's ok that she was upset, but come on - it's just a challenge, it's not anything more than that. 6. not really. that happens a lot more than you'd think - especially in vegas 7. i just think that it was something new to do since they've never done it before, but of course they had the expectation of drama. i think that it was inevitable. 8. they did - but i get the sense that a lot of the boys have been in the industry longer 9. based on the first 2 shows - perhaps 10. it's ok. ...i still don't really have the names and styles down yet.

I think it's unfair to call Ashley overly sensitive about the marriage thing. A lot of emotions run high about gay marriage, especially in the wake of prop (h)8. People get offended over all sorts of strange things; I don't often understand or agree, but I'm not going to belittle them for it. I love Jennifer, she's by far the strongest female and one of the top contestants over all. The guys seem stronger so far, but I haven't figured out who the non suck females are yet, besides Jennifer. Ashley does have talent though. She wouldn't have been at the bottom if it weren't for the second dish.

Twenty bucks said the bachelor/bachelorette had a separate party later. Because it was weird that they were in the same place. The brothers could totally wind up competing against one another. Didn't both of their dishes seem like the most sophisticated ones of the elimination challenge? Plus, I am secretly hoping that they make it to the end because both of them are easy on the eyes!

So I know last week I said Brian was hotter, I've decided that Michael is actually the hotter V brother.

1. Meh...he's okay. He seems a little too sophisticated and quiet, as weird as that sounds. 2. I don't think you have to, look at Stephanie. I think that's just Jen's thing. And I really respect her for working with Eric Ripert, so I don't really mind what she does! Her attitude has obviously helped her out so far. 3. Yes! But like mewender I'm always thrown off when I'm fast forwarding through commercials. 4. Haha, that's a good one. :) 5. I definitely think she took it a little too personally. I mean, come on, I have gay friends that came to my wedding and had a great time. Ashley just took it a little too far, like she saw an opportunity to be upset and jumped on it. Were the other two offended? Nope! 6. Nah, we had our bachelor/bachelorette parties together. We have all the same friends, male and female so it was a great chance to have a party with everyone. And, like previously said, that probably wasn't their entire bachelor/ette party. 7. Probably, but it wouldn't be reality TV without some sort of contrived drama! I like to think Top Chef is above that, but a guys vs. girls challenge was bound to happen at some point. 8. I think the boys cooked for the girls and what they though the girls would want. The girls made more "rustic looking" food because it's more manly than a cube of tofu on a spoon. I think they cooked for their audiences. But yes, the guys' food looked WAY better! 9. I bet one of them will, but I'm sure Bravo will MILK this one! 10. I'm just looking forward to all of the not-so-great people leaving. It seems like there's always such a telling difference between people who are good and the ones that are just waiting to be kicked off. I think this season is okay so far - they never really get good until they're down to 8ish people.

I'm not sure Ashley was being too sensitive. She said she understood that since they were in Vegas that a wedding challenge was bound to arise, and she was going to put in her best, but it didn't take away from the fact that it stings to be catering an event you may never get to experience. Anywho I think I might alone in my thoughts but Todd English is not my cup of tea. And I like Jennifer. She's obviously very talented and I imagine that world is much like the business world, where you have to build a tough exterior to make it through.

1.Todd English is totally hot. He would never be kicked out of my bed. 2. i think Jennifer is one of those girls who gets along with guys a lot better than girls so it was like I have to hang out with only girls for this whole time.... 3. if I am watching it on DVR I always feel like I should stop there and then I am like rip off! 4. I like that quote. 5. Ashely's anger seemed so contrived. Would you go to your friend's wedding? As a chef you make a lot of money through weddings so this needs to be part of your gamut. I am all for gay marriage, but this was not the right place to get upset. 6. I am sure that was not their only bachlor/ette parties. 7. battle of the sexes bring out all of that stereotypical behavior so I think it was the contestants' fault. 8. Definitely. why did the girls make to ceviches? and why does Jen never pronounce the "a' sound at the end? 9. I think the brothers are really talented. the guys looked way more promising than the girls overall last night. 10. I am liking this season apart from the ladies looking a little weak. I think Jen is the strongest, but lot of the rest of them are a little annoying and don't seem to be cooking that well. Also that really misogynistic guy gets on my nerves.

manufaux drama. That's all I kept thinking about the "problems" with the challenge. Brian is going to win it all! Woo woo! And yes, the Volt bros will be in the top 3. :)
