Should Nipa Have Been Kicked off the Next Food Network Star?

Last night's interesting episode of the the Next Food Network Star had the contestants running around New York on an ingredient scavenger hunt and cooking Dinner Impossible style on a train. The show started with an appearance by fallen star Robert Irvine and ended with a contestant wanting to quit.

Did you watch? Were you surprised by Lisa's success? Should Kevin or Nipa have been sent home? I was personally annoyed by Nipa's righteous behavior — didn't it take her forever to get ready? — and hoped the judges would eliminate her. How about you?

Hands down I thought she should have gotten the boot. I think it was Kevin who should have gotten the second chance. Her attitude sucks!

I agree with Doogirl - I thought the guy (can't remember his name) who couldn't cook (or cut) his eggs should have been the one to go. I wasn't really feeling Kevin's point of view yet and his dishes hadn't yet been extremely exciting or unique but at least he provided fully cooked meals and I think he could have taken the direction from the panel and found a better way to present his perspective. I'm all for second chances if I feel like the person really earned it - I don't believe Nipa earned her extra shot. Even her apology was weak, distracted, and unbelievable. I think she's just a drama queen which is why she was kept...

I think that if she works on her attitude and really shows her culinary skills, an Indian show would be interesting. CaterpillarGirl, guaranteed that not finding turmeric for a dish was a lame excuse since her 'curried potato' can be made with other spices, she did say she was making a "Sukhi Bhaji" which is dry seasoned veggies, and not curry.

an indian based show would be great, if there was an indian cook with passion to show us! Nipa has neither the passion, or the recipes in her noggin to show us anything. If she does, than why hasnt she shown it? what did she make this show? over spiced chicken, the last show? curry...that wasnt curry. yawn, boring, NEXT!

I like how she explained herself. We all make mistakes, but she seems to offer FN a LOT more then Kevin. He just was blah to me. It's like romantic bc it has mozzarella and bread and figs and honey... yahhhh...

Nipa would fill a serious void on the Food Network. They really lack world cuisine. But she might be too much drama for a young person still trying to break into the scene. I would LOVE an indian show, I don't know enough about that style.

I would love an Indian food show, but Nipa needs to learn how to take some corrective criticism. An old saying "if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen." Agree w/others about Kevin, he was too-uh-nothing. I'm all for romance but....

I think Nipa was kept on because she demonstrated that she is good melodrama and will boost ratings. From a business perspective, as the judges mentioned, it marks someone very unprofessional and even if a seasoned celebrity were to have pulled something that petty then that would have been their last show. I have nothing against Indian food and i think FN would benefit from an Indian themed show, but not if it's host is behaving in that fashion.

Nipa was totally disrespectful. I get that she's Indian, and she cooks Indian, but all the FN personalities do some type of fusion. Nipa seems unwilling to incorporate fusion into her cooking.

Nipa should have gone. She was a wimp and her lamb was way too spicy. I see the network angle and she will probably now be in the finals. Lisa ( I can't believe this) actually came off as one of the better candidates.

I can't stand Nipa. I hate how she left and then came back and told her "sob story." Please. Who cares. Indian food sucks, anyway, in my opinion. She needs to go away.

I think an Indian based food show on the food network would be great. That being said I have a lot of mixed feelings about Nipa...However out with Lisa and Kevin!

I think they should have dropped Nipa because of something that the panel said. If a real host would have walked out, that would have been their last show. At least the others had the fortitude to stand their and have their talent and personalities ripped to shreds.

I think the guy that put the raw eggs on the plates should have gone home. He was a jerk to work with and he didn't cook the eggs! How difficult is it to cook eggs??? Nipa is annoying, and she shouldn't win, but she at least cooked her food. I don't think that Kevin's idea of making food romantic is good enough, but he did cook his food!

I think Lisa really listened to the judges after that first episode and I'm starting to like her. When she dropped the aloofness, she seems very warm and likeable. That said, Nipa should've gone home. Period. It was a stunt and nothing more.

I am going to agree with digigirl. I didnt like Lisa first show, this show she really tried to change herself came up with a much better culinary point of view, kudos for taking the feedback and doing it. Nipa, goodness, she was so full of herself last week and this week is breaking down. I do really like her story and think and Indian based show would be great. I think they like drama on all tv shows so keeping her seems okay but if you would have fired someone like rachel ray for that, than she should have gone. kevin was all over the place, not upset he is gone.

Yeah I hated Lisa at first too but now she is growing on me. She seems to have abandoned that 3 C concept or whatever that mess was.

They could have dropped a lot of people before Nippa. Like that sweaty confused 19 year old. Who is going to watch his show? Indian food is at least a perspective that that FN doesn't currently portray. Kevin was LAME.

I wasn't surprised they kept Nipa. Not only is it natural to want to give her a chance, it adds a lot more drama to the show. In response to millarci's comment - I really hated Lisa during the first episode, but she seemed a LOT better this time. So the jury's still out on her, for me. Although I kinda liked Kevin, I do agree that his culinary point of view was pretty weak. And none of his food thus far had been great, so I'm not surprised he got the boot. It is a competition after all.

I'm a little surprised by Lisa's success. I'm not sure how I feel about her yet. She seems like a cocky b****. I wasn't surprised that they kept Nipa. Only because Kevin's culinary point of view is not clear.
