Spicy Korean Bean Paste Dipping Sauce

Ssamjang

I like to make mine from scratch so that I can control the flavors and infuse fresh green onion and garlic, but you can also buy this Korean condiment — called ssamjang — premade online or at many Asian markets or look for the new Bibigo brand at Kroger grocery stores. Eat it in a lettuce wrap with Korean kalbi short ribs, or use it as a dipping sauce for grilled vegetables.

Spicy Korean Bean Paste Dipping Sauce

Ingredients

  1. 2 heaping tablespoons Korean soybean paste (doenjang)
  2. 1 heaping tablespoon Korean hot pepper paste (gojuchang)
  3. 1/2 teaspoon soy sauce
  4. 1 teaspoon sugar
  5. 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  6. 1 garlic clove, minced
  7. 1 tablespoon green onions, thinly sliced

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, mix together all ingredients until well combined. Serve as a dipping sauce for meats and vegetables.

Makes about 4 tablespoons.
