Taste Test: Stonemill Kitchens Dips

Although I do enjoy football, I really think of Super Bowl Sunday as an excuse to go all out with a dazzling array of dips. I make a few from scratch, like buffalo chicken and nacho cheese, and I also buy a few for the sake of convenience. So when I recently received some Stonemill Kitchens spreads and dips, I couldn't wait to see if they made the cut for my massive Super Bowl spread. How did they taste? Find out after the jump.

Of Stonemill's eight premium dips, I sampled four: Artichoke & Jalapeno, Artichoke Parmesan, Spinach & Artichoke Parmesan, and Three Cheese Pepperoncini. All contained cream, parmesan cheese, and similar seasonings but had noticeably different flavors. Although I loved the tangy spice of the banana peppers in the pepperoncini spread, it was significantly saltier than the rest.

The artichoke varieties were classic in taste, but I wished the jalapeño flavor carried more heat. I tend to prefer artichoke dip without spinach, but surprisingly, my favorite of the four was the Spinach & Artichoke Parmesan. The spinach really mellowed out the saltiness of the parmesan.

At $5.99 apiece, the Stonemill Kitchens Dips are a solid, affordable choice if you don't have time to make homemade dip before your Super Bowl crowd arrives. They're slightly on the salty side but have great flavor. In addition to melting really nicely when heated on crostini or baguette slices, they'd be a creative flavor boost to a lunchtime sandwich. Have you ever tried any of the flavors?
