Tinto de Verano Recipe

Try This Dead-Simple, Utterly Delicious Spin on Sangria

Spain's cheap variation of sangria, tinto de verano, is quite simply a red-wine spritzer. Refreshing and delicious, this concoction is my go-to drink when I'm in the mood for something light. This easily drinkable cocktail is a delightful alternative to beer and wine.

Choose a mixer that suits your taste buds (sparkling water, San Pelligrino Limonata, and Squirt are variations that I've made), and always garnish with a lemon wedge or wheel.

Directions

  1. Fill a large wineglass, goblet, or highball glass with ice.

I'm living in Madrid and some places also put a splash of sweet Martini in it, and it is great.

With all of the beer snobbery happening a few posts back, the idea of a shandy probably won't go over well, but the refreshing lightness can be great on a summer day. Rather than mixing two parts wine to one part ginger ale, try a one to one mixture of lager and ginger ale.

I'm definitely going to try this! A glass of red is always too heavy for me in the summer, so this will be a good alternative to white every time I drink.

It seems a little tacky, but I love a nice red wine/Fresca combo!
