Trend Alert: Fast Food Chains Offering Healthy Breakfast

Healthy Offerings Win Big in Fast Food's Breakfast Battle

The latest twist in the fast food breakfast wars shows Americans are hungry for a hearty — but healthy — start.

Four months after debuting its calorie-conscious morning sandwiches, Subway has declared its breakfast a success, with sales exceeding expectations and more sandwiches on the way.

Meanwhile, Jack in the Box announced its latest product, The Breakfast Pita Pocket, will also be a fit-friendly morning option. The fast food chain's new item, priced at $2.69, will feature a whole-grain pita pocket with eggs, bacon, ham, and American cheese.

I'm not surprised to learn that specialty coffee drinks and breakfast sandwiches are the fastest-growing items in fast food. Wendy's and Taco Bell are both rolling out programs next year, and I'm willing to bet there'll be at least one healthy morning option on each. Are you happy to see these chains offering healthier breakfast? Do you ever eat fast food in the morning?

I guess they are trying but they need some work. Already the sodium levels must be through the roof so I guess they are picking and choosing what to promote as healthy. Oh well I guess they are catering to the "typical" American palate. I will admit I do eat some fast food breakfast because I was running late and I do not want to overindulge at lunch time but I usually regret it. For example, those egg biscuit at McD's does not stay in my body for even a measly 2 hours. Basically my body burns through processed flours like crazy. So now what I do is basically make some buckwheat pancakes or some more low GI breakfast food so it will stay in my system longer. And also make a quick run to the store if my supplies are low.

My daily breakfast regime: *Oatmeal w/ fruit and honey *Oatmeal w/ peanut butter and honey (for those mornings of low protein) *Bran Muffin w/ honey (mornings wherre theres not enough time to eat breakfast) I don't see how anyone could eat fastfood breakfasts filled with all things unhealthy.

I never eat fast food for breakfast anymore. I used to eat donuts and cappuccinos from Kwik Trip a lot, but I was also heavier then. Now I usually eat oatmeal and fruit for breakfast because it's cheaper and healthier.
