US Restaurateurs Struggle to Deal With Higher Catfish Prices

Do You Eat Catfish?

Bad news for catfish lovers: the cost of American farm-raised catfish is on the rise, largely in part due to climbing grain prices and cheaper imported seafood alternatives, and restaurateurs are being forced to pass the price increase on to customers.

I'd be frustrated by the costs, but I must admit that I'm not crazy about the bottom-feeding fish; it has a bit of a muddy flavor to me, so I almost never buy it at the store. What about you? Do you buy, cook, or eat catfish?

I'm from Texas and we have plenty of catfish, so I grew up eating it at my Grandparents house, or any where else for that matter. Or actually fishing for it with my Dad, then watching him clean and prepare them. So I'm quite partial to catfish, and I love preparing "catfish nuggets". Nothing better than a good catfish fry with all the fixings and homemade tartar and cocktail sauce.

I'll still eat it...sustainability speaking, it's one of the best. I don't usually cook it myself, but I'll order it if I'm in the mood.

I have eaten it, but it's not something that I order or buy a lot. Simply because it's not really local to the Bay Area.

I've never bought or cooked it myself but I have ordered it at my favorite cajun/creole restaurant. However my husband won't touch it with a 10-foot pole.

Honestly I am not impressed by the taste of catfish. Maybe I haven't had a prepared catfish that blew my mind.
