What Do You Think of Buffets?

Buffets: Love Them or Hate Them?

When it comes to the world of food, I'm pretty easy to please. I basically love everything! However, there is one thing I despise and that's a buffet. There's something about the "all you can eat" concept that disgusts me and I feel like it's harder to control the quality of the food. Sometimes dishes will be cold and unappetizing. Plus, I hate waiting in line and having to serve myself. How about you? What do you think of buffets?

Love em because of the variety of food and some of the buffets, like those in Vegas, have some delicious foods! Hate them because I become a glutton and end up waddling out with a button undone on my jeans.

I like the variety, but it can be hard to not overeat.

Eh! They are nothing to write home about. It's hard for me to not think about sanitary issues. Just observe a busy buffet for an hour or two & you will see all kinds of things that gross you out!

I don't like buffets since I never get my money's worth and the idea of food sitting out in the open grosses me out. But love them because I have a teenage son who can eat me out of house and home.

Love them! I have kids, so it's much easier to eat when they get to pick what they want. Plus, they're fun! All the comments are people who like them, but more people are voting that they hate them.

For the most part, hate them. If it was an all vegetarian buffet, then maybe I would change my vote, but every one I've been to had food I wouldn't eat and honestly, the idea of other people touching everything grosses me out. Typically I don't eat enough to get my money's worth at a buffet, so that's another reason. If it was a wedding buffet, that's not too bad. Overall it's hard to get ingredients lists for items in the buffet, so it's a "risk."

The only buffet I go to is not your standard buffet. It is a Japanese sushi place. You sit down at your table and there is a big double sided sheet of paper that is the menu, and you can order anything off of it. You tick off the items that you would like, and the waiter comes and picks up the list. Each item is made specifically for you, and you never serve yourself. You can keep on filling out sheets to your heart's content! It is delicious and not gross. And there is a HUGE variety!

Here in the US, I love buffets because they usually have a kick-butt salad bar so I can make myself a super-tasty salad with exactly what I want on it. Plus, there are usually healthy options (steamed fish, veggies, soups, etc.). BUT, we stayed at an all inclusive resort in Mexico that had a buffet where I got a nasty, 2 week-long case of E. coli, so yeah, right now I'm not a fan of them.

I agree, its very difficult to control serving size. You have to control yourself from being a gluttonous glob. But the up side is that there is variety. It is the one stop meal for the family because everyone can find something they like. And sometimes it just cheaper than eating a meal at a slow food restaurant where you have to figure out what you want and how you want it and wait to be served. i'm partial any way because where I live we have a number of Indian reservation casinos and the buffets are top notch.

#3 - Couldn't agree more. I love buffets for the variety, and I get as big of a portion (or as little of a portion) as I want.

I like the food choice of a buffet, but sometimes too much choice is a bad thing and sometimes i overeat cause i wanna get my money's worth

Okay, here's the thing--I like certain KINDS of buffet. Salad buffets are AMAZING because I'm horrendously picky about my salads and it's usually far less expensive than piecing one together on my own. I also love Asian buffets because I love to sample little flavors from all the dishes. As far as "home cooking" buffets and other American fare? The food is ALWAYS poor quality. And I'm usually annoyed with buffet lines at weddings. There's a real sense of "there's enough of this for you to take one, but really, you should take less." Don't know where I get that impression, but I'm usually terribly aware of the hundred person-deep line behind me.

I like them, as I can be independent. I can serve myself, re-fill my drinks without relying on a server. Also, I think buffets are good when we dine with friends with children. Kids can be picky eaters, and it's good that there is a vast array of foods to pick from. Also, generally speaking, buffets are casual dining, so it's okay for kids to be loud, somewhat underfoot, etc.

I love them because I get to try many things I would never order or try otherwise. Also I can get tiny portions to try. I find I eat less from a buffet than I do when a restaurant heaps mounds of food on a plate to serve. I like the ability to control my servings without having to take it home.

HATE THEM- I am a germaphobe, so I don't go anywhere near them.

I heart them simply because of all that variety. Not to mention I don't go to them very often. If I did, I probably wouldn't like them as much.
