What's Your Go-To Protein?

What's Your Go-To Protein?

Even though I'm not a vegetarian, when the inevitable question of what to make for dinner comes up, I gravitate toward tofu. I love Asian cuisine, so I have tofu-friendly soy sauce, sesame oil, and red chili paste stocked in my fridge and a rice cooker at arm's length. Plus, compared to beef, pork, or chicken, it's the easiest and quickest protein to prepare. While some people find tofu lacking when up against meatier "meats," I consider it an equal to more traditional options. When you're running to the store, what protein do you stock up on?

I've been in the UK for the past few years and realized that growing up I never ate lamb. We Americans hardly ever eat it, while here it's a pretty standard meat. I noticed lamb isn't an option in the poll which reminded me how unpopular it is back home!

beans > fish > pork > beef > lamb > anything else available > chicken Yeah, i think chicken nowadays (even most gourmet organic grain fed massaged and fettered overvariety) is of such bad quality and little flavour that i regularly avoid it if i can. despite being an avowed carnivore (there's no cut of lamb, beef or pork i won't eat) i actually find the quality of tinned oily fish and beans to be good enough to eat regularly (plus, having spanish family, it's the norm)

It used to be chicken, but since I got married, it's become pork. It would still be chicken if the price of it around here weren't so crazy, though.

@fuzzles, LOL on the bacon. Mine is fish, chicken, tofu, eggs and beef. My husband would put beef first but since I do most of the cooking...

Beans! I don't eat meat and I just can't seem to like tofu for the life of me. Eggs are okay, but not the best tasting.
