World's Best Burgers

Which Burger's Your All-Time Fave?

In case you missed it, we're reaching the end of National Burger Week, and there's no time like the present to take to the grill with a few of your favorite patties! (Need suggestions to put in between the bun? We've got more than a few.) While we're on the subject, I want to know what your favorite burger is, where it's from, and what goes into it.

One of my top contenders of all time has to go to a high-end restaurant in San Francisco called Spruce. Yes, it's a froufrou cloth napkin burger that'll run you $16, but I've never had better: house-ground Niman ranch beef, served with melted havarti cheese, homemade zucchini, and red onion pickles, lettuce, tomato, and herb-caper aioli on a buttered English muffin that's baked from scratch. Oh, and a side of duck fat fries.

What's the hands-down best burger you've ever had — and what was in it?

I think the Spruce burger is a tad overrated...it was delicious but I was tasting that aioli sauce for days! My favorite burger of all time is at a tiny French restaurant by my house called Gamine. Not only is the owner, Stefan, amazing but they whip up an absolutely delicious burger. If you get it the “Gamine” way order the regular burger with Brie, Egg and Bacon. They offer other choices but this is the best combo – hands down. Stefan says the secret to his delicious burger is the bread. Instead of using a typical bun, he uses fresh, dense French rolls that hold up much better during the eating process. In his opinion, you shouldn’t have to eat a burger and not be able to put it down in fear of it crumbling apart. You should be able to enjoy a sip..or two…of beer or wine in between bites.

Ha! The age old question! I'm more of a 5-8 Club kinda gal. Matt's chaps my ass in that they don't have ice for their drinks. *scratching head* As for the St. Paul area, I have heard many times that the Blue Door Pub and The Nook have pretty wunnerful versions. Hoping to attest to that sometime in the near future!

The famed Jucy/Juicy Lucy (and it's many variations) for which this neck of the woods is known! For a fast food burger, it's hard to go wrong with Smashburger. I am currently grooving pretty hard on their Twin Cities burger. Swiss and cheddar cheeses, grilled garlic-y onions, toe-may-toe, lettuce and mayo between a droolworthy onion bun.

I also love a good medium rare grilled cheeseburger from In-N-Out with an extra-toasted bun, chopped chiles, grilled onions, lettuce, and tomato.

A burger at a place called Werner's in a little itsy-bitsy town, Shiner, Texas. It was cooked rare, with swiss cheese and homemade chunky guacamole and the fries on the side were perfect - chunky, crispy outside and steaming inside, and able to sop up all the burger juice. Oh my, I am SO hungry now!!
