Would You Eat This Dried Seaweed?

On a recent trip to Berkeley, I discovered my new favorite destination: the Berkeley Bowl Marketplace. At this independent supermarket, I tasted previously unheard-of fruits and chose between 10 different varieties of carrots. There was also an abundant selection of dried seaweed on display. While I love nori — the dried seaweed that's used in sushi — I wasn't so sure about consuming these dried versions.

I'd give it a try. I like wakame in miso soup and nori in my sushi so it couldn't be that bad.

That looks almost like the type of seaweed that goes into seaweed soup! It's what Koreans eat on their birthday for good luck :D It's delicious too... my mom always makes it with beef.

I love nori, but something tells me that this tastes nothing like nori. I dunno, those paper labels don't look too promising...

i know that there's a lot of value with foods like this but i'm one of those people who eats with their eyes most of the if it's not attractive then i won't eat it

My boss brought in dried seaweed and offered me some.. I tried a little because I didn't want to look like a ninny. The salty weird fishy taste was awful, it almost made me throw up. And I tasted it for the rest of the day. Ugh. I'm of the "try anything once" mentality, and dried seaweed is definitely a one-time-only for me.

my brother uses dried seaweed sprinkled in his soups, which i always thought was tasty. he uses it for a bunch of other things, too, but since he lives in japan now, and hasn't cooked for me in a while, i can't remember everything he put it in. i just know he ALWAYS had a bag around the house.

I wouldn't mind, but aside from sushi and seaweed salad I wouldn't know how to eat them. Any suggestions (I mean I put I'd try anything once, so for me its just a matter how finding out what to use them in).

I like nori too considering how much I love sushi, but I'm a little wary of this too for some reason. But, I'll try anything once.
