Oh wow, I've never had bread with olive oil. It sounds so odd to me. I always ate white bread with butter. I use to love warming it up by toasting it and the butter would melt, OMG SO GOOD. Also the read and garlic butter they give at Tony Romas....to...die...for!!!

I'm with emmag. I spent a year in Greece and all bread was served with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and this type of olive spread (olive butter maybe?). Best of both worlds. :)

Most of the time, I stay away from just plain bread because it's empty calories that I don't really miss. But if it's a good, whole-grain, homemade bread that is hot out of the oven, nothing beats a little bit of butter and a sprinkle of sea salt.

I am so glad you had the "depends on the ..." option because I actually thought that as I read the question!

depends on the bread mostly I usually use butter but I love olive oil and spices on a nice crusty italian or french bread or something

i really like both actually - so it depends more on the type of bread than on the condiment that i use with it. there are some breads that are flavored and butter would just cover that up, where as olive oil would really enhance it.

Depends on the bread, oil, and butter. I love a good rosemary flavored bread with olive oil. But a dinner roll? Butter.

I actually would have both. I love olive oil and butter but I would think olive oil would be better for you. :-)

Olive oil but it needs to have some balsamic vinegar in it!

I would say I am a lover of all things bread, but some breads are better with olive oil or butter and vice versa. For example, I would never (or very rarely) use butter on sourdough, and I wouldn't use olive oil on regular sandwich bread from the grocery store.
