As a grandchild of asparagus farmers, Nonna used to say "we sell the skinny stalks to the silly people." Cause you get way more money for the skinny stalks than the larger ones. Easier and less costly to ship and restaurants and caterers prefer them cause they are easier to prepare "gourmet" dishes for a crowd. Therefore many people think they are better tasting when they are not. That's your farm lesson for the day, now go eat some grass - skinny or fat your choice, just eat it cause you'll live a long time and have fragrant pee!

I like the thick spears better; I think they have more flavor than the thin ones.

I will eat either one! However, I went with thin as I like to grill with the thin ones.

i think there needs to be an "either" option, because I like asparagus any way!

Thick ones! If you peel them (from just about a half inch below the tip) they're more tender, and less bitter. Steam them or goss with Olive Oil and grill, and VOILA!

Thin! :) They're just awesome baked in the oven with olive oil and sea salt. They get crispy and AMAZING.
