Yorkshire Pudding

Definition: Yorkshire Pudding

Yorkshire Pudding
A type of British pastry that is nothing at all like pudding and more like a cross between a souffle and a popover. The puffy batter is prone to quick deflation and consists of eggs, milk, and flour. The batter is poured into a shallow baking dish, small ramekins, or muffin tins and is baked in a bath of beef drippings until golden brown. Yorkshire pudding is the typical side dish for English roast beef.

mmm yorkie puds! Love them - I'd agree with Annearky - not pastry more of a batter I guess but if you do them right they're kinda crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I love yorkshire puddings with sunday lunch - but they're also nice with a bit of strawberry jam!

Annearky, I admire your ability to make them by eye. It's so easy to mess them up I haven't had a go at them yet.

Living as I do in Yorkshire as I do I am proud to say I can make them by eye. They are like riding a bike - once you have the skill you can't go wrong. A few "builds" on the definition; I would never call them pastry, and they are not prone to quick deflation as they are firm and crispy when cooked - It's just that some people can't get them to rise in the first place. N.B. the dimunitive form of Yorkshire puddings is "Yorkies". Annie

My family originated in Yorkshire and everyone but me is obsessed with Yorkshire puddings! It's a favourite around the holidays especially.

They're edible, but not all that exciting.

I love Yorkshire Puddings, but I've yet to try my hand at them as they are very difficult to make correctly.
