Are You Upset When a Recipe Doesn't Turn Out Right?

Are You Upset When a Recipe Doesn't Turn Out Right?

When I started baking, I tried a new recipe for chocolate cookies. The final cookies were horribly stuck to the pan and tasted awful. My father called the cookies a failure, and I didn't talk to him for a week. I try not to get upset when a cake ends up being super dry or a steak is accidentally overcooked, but sometimes it's hard! What about you?

I just learn from it and move on.

I'm actually a really good cook (in my opinion), so I get very upset when I cook something that is inedible. It's very frustrating for me!

The only thing that I find I tend to screw up and have make over, is drinks. I love a goood adult cocktail. But I swear I suck at making them. But I will say this... anything in a can like cinnamon rolls, biscuits, cookies ... the trick is to cook them at a lower heat(325-350)... and let them cook longer.

It means that the person who wrote the recipe didn't give the correct details because they want to keep it a secret!!!

i'm a perfectionist so I can't help getting upset but after i beat myself up about it, i realize that i have to sometimes tweak the recipe to work with my oven...

It depends on if other people aren't enjoying it. If it's that bad, I'm embarrassed, certainly.

Last Christmas I was doing a ton of baking- cookies, cakes, brownies, etc. - and I had whipped up my favorite recipe for delicious homemade brownies. The last ingredient was vanilla extract, and just as I added it, I realized that I had grabbed the almond extract instead! I was so upset, but my mom added the vanilla and cooked them anyway, figuring that it was stupid to let the ingredients go to waste. My mom and I thought they were awful, but when we gave them to our boyfriends without saying a word, they gobbled them up with no problem. Goes to show how much they actually taste when they're scarfing stuff down!

not going to lie, i have trouble making the cinnamon rolls from the can and that used to bother me. I've accepted it.

Yes, it's very aggravating when I go through all the effort, follow the recipe exactly and it flops. :irk:

I don't usually get upset. Every once in a blue moon, but that's it. But I CAN get a little obsessive about making a recipe work. I was trying to make these cloud biscuits once and made them 8 times in a row until I had perfected the recipe. The birds and squirrels were happy with the lesser-than batches that I threw out the window.

I'm a total perfectionist, so I get really upset when something goes wrong. I hate it when recipes don't come out right, and, since I mostly bake, you can't really "make it work" most of the time. THe worst was on Chirstmas and I did a genoise cake for a youe log. It miserably failed, and that was the only time I have ever cried. I had to angirly mke a lemon tart that year.

Yes - It upsets me, especially if I've spent a fortune on ingredients. I tried to make my husband a black forest cake from scratch. I spent close to $70 on the ingredients, only to have the cake turn out dry and not as flavorful as I would have liked.

It depends on for whom I'm cooking. Last Thanksgiving, the fam came over and I tried a new recipe for the turkey, plus I used two turkey breasts instead of a whole bird. Well, F, dude, cuz my turkeys didn't finish cooking by meal time and my bro made some mean comments. I wasn't pissed about the turkeys in the oven, I was pissed at the turkey I had invited for dinner!

I really get upset if something doesn't turn out right. I tried making some shortbread cookies from a new recipe last week, and the result was a foul smelling goo I had to scrape out of the pan. My boyfriend couldn't understand why I was upset.

it drives me crazy when something comes out wrong. even if i'm just cooking for myself and my boyfriend, i like to get everything right. and presentation is important too. thankfully, he always compliments me, but i'm a harsher critic on myself when it comes to cooking.

It depends... if you can make it work, make it work! I don't think I've ever cooked anything that ended up being inedible.
