Yummy Link: Magnolia Bakery Shut Down by the Dept. of Health

In a story that's still developing, the Department of Health has shut down the famous Magnolia Bakery. Apparently it's a lack of sinks - and not rats - that has caused the shut down. Guess you'll just have to make Magnolia cupcakes at home until it reopens.

Update: Magnolia has issued an official statement stating that they've operated for 10 years without this sink.

Update 2: The Department of Health has allowed Magnolia to reopen now that they've installed a new sink.

Hm.. after reading the story and two updates, that was a rather pointless event. I'd be more worried about whether companies actually use their sinks.

i'm a little confused. how can they not have a sink? where do they wash their hands?
pattyxxcore pattyxxcore 8 years
well, if they wash their hands in the same sink as say, the dish washing sink, it could cause a cross contamination. i guess it makes sense. i'm just hoping it will be open again by the time i come back to new york in a few weeks.

A lack of sinks can shut down a business? Good grief.

I think the Department of Health should be responsible for letting consumers know the reasons behind any closure. Just shutting something down doesn't help anyone.
