Get back to basics, and don't be afraid to improvise either.

Stick to simple, fast and easy recipes. And improvise! Don't buy a giant bunch of expensive fresh herbs if you know you won't make the most of them. Don't have oregano? Try thyme. Let thinly sliced onions stand in for shallots. Use white wine vinegar instead of Champagne vinegar.

Keep a granola or protein bar in your purse for those times when you feel the urge to go through a drive through or when you need an handy snack. This will tide you over until you get home. You are more likely to drive into a fast food joint when you are tired and hungry. Yes, I'm w/ you on keeping things made up ahead of time. If you can remind yourself that you have something made up at home (that's easily reheated), you'll be less likely to turn into that fast food drive!

Recently I've started using mini ziploc bags to refrigerate leftover herbs or onions (incase a recipe calls for half) and they stay fresh until you are ready to use them again! A little goes a long way :)
