Louisiana: Muffaletta

Muffaletta sandwiches are a New Orleans original. Sicilian immigrants living in the French Quarter invented the cold cuts and olive sandwich around 1906. The Central Grocery claims to have developed the signature sandwich, which is at its best when left out for a few hours so the olive salad soaks into the roll, meat, and cheese.
