20 Food Costumes to DIY on the Cheap
There are soooo many incredible Halloween costume ideas out there, but if you need something on the cheap that requires little effort, look no further than these easy DIY food costumes. From Skittles to pizza slices to s'mores, there's nothing you can't throw together with some paint, glue, and cardboard boxes.
Chipotle Burritos
Wrap yourself in foil and go as a Chipotle burrito. It doesn't get easier than that!
Ice Cream Cone
Wear brown pants or leggings with a criss-cross pattern and glue colored felt pieces to a white shirt. Glue a red balloon to a headband for a "cherry on top."
Salt and Pepper
Dress in all white or all black and glue a felt cutout of an "S" or a "P" to pull the whole costume together.
Piñata
Tape a bunch of layers of crepe paper to a dress. Every few inches, cut three-fourths of the way through the paper to create the ruffled look. Patience is required. Netflix binging is encouraged.
Corn Dog
Wrap a brown sheet around your body. Have a friend staple it together. Paint on the ketchup and mustard.
Skittles
Tape or glue empty Skittles packets to a dress and glue on the actual pieces of candy to the straps.
Bag of Jelly Beans
Wear a longsleeved white shirt and white pants. Get a clear trash bag and cut holes for your arms and legs to fit through. Print the nutritional facts on the back of the costume with a black Sharpie. Fill up the bag with colored balloons for the jellybeans, and tie up the trash bag near your neck with a ribbon.
Pop-Tart
Repurpose a cardboard box into an ultrathin Pop-Tart. Use white paint for the frosting and colored markers for the sprinkles.
Cupcake
A tutu acts as the cupcake base, synthetic cobweb can act as the fluffy frosting, and foam hair rollers are the sprinkles!
Mini-Wheat
A cardboard box, straw, white spray paint, and black felt is all you need to make a Frosted Mini-Wheat costume.
Pizza and Pizza Delivery Boy
Transform a cardboard box into a triangular pizza slice. Paint on the cheese and glue on red pepperoni pieces made from colored construction paper.
Double Stuf Oreos
Paint the Oreo design on a black spray-painted piece of cardboard box. Wear black paints, white shirts, and a white wig (if you want to go the extra distance).
Cookie Monster and Cookie
Or . . . to keep things simpler, paint on dark chocolate chips on a cardboard box for America's favorite cookie. For the cookie monster costume, try a blue dress (or shirt), blue feather boa, and googly eyes glued onto white foam balls.
Hamburglar and Hamburger
The Hamburglar costume can be made from many things you likely have: a gray dress (or shirt), red tie, red gloves, black hat, and black face mask. For the hamburger, paint one onto a tan-colored t-shirt.
Sushi
Wear white shorts and a t-shirt for the rice. Tie a pillow with a red pillow case around your back using a green scarf (for the tuna and nori).
Orbit Girl
Start with a white blazer (or collared shirt) and white skirt (or jeans). Tie a blue scarf around your neck, and attach an Orbit logo to the front of your shirt. Don't forget a packet of gum and your flashy smile.
Sriracha
Wear a sriracha t-shirt and dark green beanie. Boom! Costume completed.
Fries
Use red and yellow poster paper for McDonald's fries. Hold the costume up with suspenders.
Box of Wine
If you have art skills, paint the Franzia logo onto a cardboard box. Otherwise, makeshift their largest box into a costume to fit around your torso. Keep the bag of wine on you for people to slap and slurp.
Nerds
Dress as Nerds by painting and then donning a big, cardboard Nerds candy box.
