Assisted Living: A Twilight-Inspired Apartment

Assisted Living: A Twilight-Inspired Apartment

CasaSugar Community member Lilsistamelons recently asked Assisted Living for advice on creating a Twilight-inspired apartment:

"Hi, I'm a college student who is finally moving into my own apartment. I loved the designs used in the Twilight themed wedding. I love dark, sexy, and retro. Think Dita Von Teese meets Bill Compton's home meets Alexander McQueen. Now, sadly, every velvet couch I see costs over $1,000. What can I actually afford to buy to turn my first place into a truly comfortable place to love?"

To see my suggestions for Lilsistamelons,

Ahh! More Twilight love! I think the most important element of this style is the palette. So head to the paint shop and douse your walls in moody midnight or red wine colors. Pick up one of Urban Outfitters' velvet tufted throwbacks like a fainting sofa, a pouf, or headboard to get the sexy, retro look. Shop vintage stores for ornate, baroque wooden frames. Then, accessorize! I've rounded up a few affordable items that'll definitely do the trick. One of my favorites is the skulls wallpaper from Graham & Brown.

Ah thank you for this! This definitely helps. I check CL every single day, but no one seems to have a velvet couch. There's a gorgeous one that's sold out on Amazon, it's dark purple and stunning. I can't wait to decorate!

Have you looked at local thrift stores or on Craigslist? I've seen some beautiful velvet couches posted on CL. (But sadly, my husband is not down with them.) Ashley Furniture also had some velvet or velvet-like couches for reasonable prices; plus, they run some great specials! When we bought our living room set, they had a 20% off deal going on.
