Definition: Backsplash

Though it sounds like a type of diving-board trick, a backsplash is the surface behind your kitchen sink or stove designed to protect the wall from any water and oil that sprays upward. Not every kitchen has a backsplash, but for those that do, there are a seemingly infinite number of styles.

The once purely functional adornments are now highly decorative, with a variety of materials to suit different looks. An easy way to add some personality to your kitchen, backsplashes can be made from metal, glass, plastic, terra cotta, basic tile, decorative mosaics, and much more.
