Backsplash

Definition: Backsplash

Though it sounds like a type of diving-board trick, a backsplash is the surface behind your kitchen sink or stove designed to protect the wall from any water and oil that sprays upward. Not every kitchen has a backsplash, but for those that do, there are a seemingly infinite number of styles.

The once purely functional adornments are now highly decorative, with a variety of materials to suit different looks. An easy way to add some personality to your kitchen, backsplashes can be made from metal, glass, plastic, terra cotta, basic tile, decorative mosaics, and much more.

I'm loving the colors in that first picture.

I want the beautiful green glass tile that is in the kitchen of Tyler Florence on his TV show; "Tyler's Ultimate" on the food network. Of course I wouldn't mind having the whole kitchen. The tile extends onto the entire wall. Check it out on foodnetwork.com You can see a 360 tour and view a slide show. It doesn't do justice to the bright vivid green though and the cabinets are a brighter shade of blue. http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/lf_kd_celebrity_kitchen_tours/text/0,2495,FOOD_19736_31027,00.html Slide 12 is the best shot of the sink, but these pictures appear to be pale and washed out.

I love my kitchen's backsplash. They're black granite like our countertops.

I'm thinking of possibly using a glass backsplash in our new kitchen and putting some fun wallpaper behind it. If not, I'll use some tiny tiles or bead board.

Funny! Here in Australia they're called "Splashbacks". Maybe we are backwards :-)

I really like the way you can make a personal style statement without spending lots of $$$ with a custom backsplash. It is such a small area that you do not need lots of materials and it can be a do-it-yourself weekend project... for those who want a pat-on-the back moment! I really like the look with the river rock panels you can buy at home depot.

Backsplash... I like the mosaic look. Better yet... a sink that doesn't create splash!!!
