I'm a CasaSugar reader from Barcelona. In the last few months, I've been taking notes of tips, ideas, and recommendations on CS to make my own project: transform the apartment upstairs into a guesthouse. It was a challenge because the building was built in 1902 and many things, like ceilings, were untouched since. We hired a professional to take down the old walls and put new ones, install new plumbing and drainage and do a part of the electricity. The rest, better or worse, we did it ourselves with the help of family and friends. It was exhausting, mainly because we wanted to open for the summer, but we also learned a lot of things. Now we're finally open and I can say it was worth the effort and all those trips to furniture stores and DIY warehouses. Thanks to everyone who posted a tip or an idea on CS!

Some of the furniture was also renovated, like the chairs and table in the first picture. We bought them secondhand very cheap and sanded them down, re-varnished them, and repainted until they looked like they do now. This is a before picture:
