My new favorite person on the planet is television producer turned self-taught designer Brian Flynn, aka Décor Demon. Whether he's diving in dumpsters for furniture to use in a colorful, fresh, and glam outdoor lounge or blowing up a '60s portrait of his parents to use as a large-scale wall mural, everything he touches turns to gold. Don't believe me? He's got photos and details of all his fantastic decorating projects to prove it.
Brian's latest task was to bring "smoke-and-mirror magic" to the creative lounge of a new production company in town (Atlanta). As for the requirements, Brian says, "A TV director needed graphic backdrops for shooting reality-style interviews, two laptop-clutching writers insisted on power outlets galore, sound engineers preferred the concrete floors NOT to echo, and the staff editor wished for a sofa on which to kick back and scan raw footage." The only trouble was the budget . . . it was what you'd call "limited." Two dumpster dives, eight reupholstery jobs, and five weeks later, Brian transformed this bare, ho-hum, industrial-looking space into a show-stopping lounge oozing Hollywood glamour.
Want to see the final project? Trust me, you do! So, continue reading!
Va-va-voom! Right? Brian had this gorgeous tufted banquette custom-made with power outlets and drink-proof indoor/outdoor velvet fabric. The mismatched chairs were thrifted finds tied together with matching paint and super sexy silver vinyl cushions. Wondering how he was able to hang that amazing wallpaper on the yucky cinder block he began with? Then head over to Décor Demon to read all the details and resources and see the rest of the space, including another drop-dead gorgeous sitting area. Brian's also produced two brilliant web videos letting you in on his splurge vs. save tips and a must-see lesson on wallpapering. While you watch, I'll be working on getting him over to Sugar Inc. HQ to work his wonders.
