Before and After Upholstered Chair

Before and After: Rebecca's Ravishing Slipper Chairs

My friend Rebecca of Loving Living Small recently reupholstered a set of mushroom chenille slipper chairs that she'd purchased new at a great price. "What I was finding was either way out of my price range or way our of my style range," she writes. So she decided to buy the "so affordable, so comfy and, in my opinion, so ugly," chairs and have them reupholstered. She negotiated a great price with a local upholsterer and had them updated in a bold, graphic black and white fabric.

I absolutely adore Rebecca's new chairs! The pattern is so eye-catching, and it adds just the right amount of oomph to the otherwise subtle space. Head over to Loving Living Small to hear more about her fabric resource, her upholsterer, and more!

I do love the chairs but nowhere is it mentioned how much the redo cost or how much the chairs were originally. I've seen slipper chairs in bold prints and black and white at several stores (Pier One, Target, etc.) that were a reasonable price (around the $300 or less range) and could have been just fine for this space if all she wanted was black and white. I'm just curious how much she spent in the end. Could she just have ordered a chair from Ballard Design and picked out one of their endless fabrics for the same price. (Plus, not everyone can "negotiate" a great price with an upholsterer. These people are craftsmen and deserve to be paid well for what they do.) As mentioned, those chairs look great. I just think we deserve to know how much these things cost before we load on the praise.

It's really amazing how chic and sophisticated Ikea fabric (that's the Gunvor she used: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10185135) can look! Majorly impressed.
