Blue Throw Pillows

Found: The Chambray Shirt of Throw Pillows

It takes a lot to stop us in our tracks, but textile designer Rebecca Atwood's newly launched line of pillows did just that. Created using traditional textile techniques on natural fabrics like chambray, linen, and twill, her handmade pillows are artful without being precious.

Incorporating hand-painting, dip-dyeing, and the ancient art of Japanese Shibori (similar to tie-dyeing), Rebecca channeled elements from her travels, her life in Brooklyn, and the coastal landscape of a childhood spent in Cape Cod into her designs. Everything starts in her sketchbook and is then produced locally by hand, making each pillow truly one of a kind.

With prices ranging from $150-$350, her aim was to design casual, modern-day heirlooms. "I wanted to create pieces that work with how we live," said Rebecca. "They are easy and can be thrown in the wash, yet are luxurious and stylish." On her blog, Rebecca compares the pillows to a favorite chambray shirt, and that comparison makes perfect sense to us. Comfortable but refined — exactly the feeling we want in our home.
