I was paging through photos of a Texas ranch house that interior designer Bunny Williams had decorated when I paused at this library photo. There's a lot of love about this room, from the deep, burnished wood interiors to the leather chesterfield sofa. However, the most clever idea in the room, in my opinion, is the way that Williams styled the side table by the red armchair on the left. To compensate for the table's diminutive height, a stack of oversize reference books in the room's color palette have been added to the table. I love how this seemingly off-the-cuff solution adds an element of relaxed playfulness to an otherwise serious room.
I've actually employed a similar strategy in my living room, using a stack of hardcover novels to add a bit of height to a wooden stool by the sofa. Have you ever tried something similar in a room in your home?
