Casa Quickie: Getting Rid of Evidence

Accident in the kitchen? Pricked yourself sewing new curtains? You don't have to be an ax murderer to encounter a blood stain in need of removal. Getting blood out of fabric is a piece of cake. The trick is dealing with it as soon as humanly possible. Just pour hydrogen peroxide directly onto the stain, and then rinse it with cold water. Repeat this until the stain disappears, and then launder as usual. How about that for a coverup?

ufshutterbabe: i wouldn't have thought about spitting on it!

I saw Kelly Rippa give this tip out on "Regis & Kelly" one day and I thought she was nuts, but it works - If you get a little bit of blood on an item of clothing (we're talking a cut, not a stab wound amount) spit on it! Supposedly the enzymes in your saliva break down the stain. After that, rinse in cold water and launder the item, of course!

Hydrogen peroxide is definitely a bleach, so it's worth being careful about by doing spot test treatments and making sure it's dried up quick. It's the same with using nail polish remover (acetone) to getting certain stains out, you have to be super careful with it. If you're up for regular products, using Oxy-clean to lift a stain is safer for most materials.

Oxy-clean and similar products work just as well, and won't bleach.

i've used baby wipes on fresh blood stains and it takes it out perfectly. i've also used hydrogen peroxide-i applied it in small amounts to the spot with a q tip. either works, but the wipes are more convenient.

doesn't hydrogen peroxide bleach clothes? an old roommate of mine used to use a facial wash with hydrogen peroxide in it and it ruined our towels.
