i'm repainting my mom's place - parts of it, this December: maybe some light brown/taupe on the top with the current colour on bottom (a beautiful "country" blue) with some chair-rail that i may put in. her place is really dark so i think it'll help and won't take as much time and effort as painting the walls fully. i like 2 colors together on walls, too.

I've been living in small spaces since college (and 3 years post-graduation!), so I'm loving these tips!

So true. My apt is somewhat small so when it came to painting it was light light light. My bedroom has Behr pain in oyster and all birch wood pieces, well the large ones like my platform bed and bureau. I have some dark pieces and wall decor, wrough iron to give it some "pow" effect. Same thing in my living room, eating area-I used Behr quiet refuge (which my boyfriend says reminds him of his mom's lipstick) and again birch tone woods and light colored cough and chair, and also light window drapery.

So true! My apartment is pretty tiny but we bought light beige couches and our rug matches with some light blues and pinks and browns. All accent peices are more dark, but the large peices are lighter and it really make sthe place look a little bigger then it really is :)
