Casa Verde: Innovative Small-Space Living

Check out the Single Hauz, an innovative prefab housing design from Poland-based Front Architects. If they look a little like billboards, it's no mistake — billboards were indeed the inspiration for these streamlined homes. Supported by a single pole, these small residences are intended for design-savvy singletons. This is because the floor plan for the Single Hauz is just 290 square feet, which includes kitchen, bathroom, and living space on the first floor that opens to a deck. The second floor includes a sleeping loft with roof access.

To see another picture of the Single Hauz, just

.

While some may find these designs a little outlandish, I can't help but think they'd be a great choice in flood-prone areas such as the Gulf Coast. What do you think of them?

Couldn't you just see a whole bunch of them, condo-style stacked near each other? You could have some Swiss-family-Robinson connectors to your neighbors, a futuristic pod neighborhood? hmmmm

gruaig_rua I was wondering the same thing...flood waters and hurricane force winds seem like they could be the downfall of the house (literally!). Still pretty cool though. Love to see one in person!

If I was totally loaded this would be the tree house I got for my kids (which I haven't had yet.....so that gives me time to get rich....)

I wonder how sturdy it is. I mean would a strong wind start swaying the whole place?

That just screams out for some organizational inspiration from the ever-popular "Living in 300sq ft of Space" Ikea display. It reminds me of the Hotel Everland that's on top of the Palais de Tokyo.

290 square feet?? A floor plan or pictures of the inside would help me wrap my brain around this one. Whoah.

It is absolutely gorgeous, and yet it doesn't it seems out of place in the city and with low intimacy. As for the one on water it is quite harmonious, but yet again there is the question of security...
