A Backyard Shed Becomes a Mini Dream Home

Jun 21 2018 - 11:10am

Yearning for a workspace that wouldn't cramp her home's floor plan, Homepolish [1] designer Paige Morse set her eyes on two ramshackle sheds in her own backyard. Knowing she'd have to start from scratch, she hired a contractor to push the sheds together, strip them down to the studs, and add wall planks. Bathed in a modern color scheme of crisp white and elegant ebony, Paige decided to take it a step further by installing a kitchenette and a vintage tub! The result is a backyard fantasy cottage that anyone would be tempted to move into. Keep reading to see the spot-on styling and clever design decisions that really make it shine.

The shed's dark exterior juxtaposes its light and airy interiors.

While the space is only 250 square feet, Paige was able to pack in all the necessities, including a kitchenette. The key to cramming in all of the essentials while keeping it from looking cluttered? Organization!

The tiny kitchen is inspired by European designs and includes a miniature stove and microwave.

Throwing a large white bedspread over the sofa lends a bohemian vibe but can also cover up a dated piece of furniture.

Once Paige got to the final phase of the project (decorating), her budget was wiped. Instead of buying new pieces, she got creative with repurposing, using items passed on by family and friends and even finding things on walks. "I spent very little on decor, but it looks expensive! I just found creative ways to cut costs," said Paige.

Sticking to a simple black-and-white color scheme gave the space a polished and cohesive look. Painting the walls and ceiling white also takes advantage of the abundance of natural light.

Paige managed to find a vintage sink under the sheds that she was able to revamp and reuse. We love the addition of a sink skirt to hide the exposed-plumbing eyesore.

The shower was widened to feel extraluxe, and it even includes a rain showerhead.

A pearl-inlay dresser, vintage paintings, and plants make the room feel rich and full of character.

Paige mixed smaller frames and accessories with traditional paintings for an eclectic gallery wall.

This white vase adds a sculptural focal point to the desk. We love the idea of turning it into a planter!
