Cool Idea: Able+Baker Design's 1968 Airstream

Berkeley-based designer Joshua Ganshorn of Able+Baker Design, whose handmade maple bench I've previously featured on the site, is back with a completely different project. This time, he's completely transformed a 1968 Airstream Ambassador Trailer, designing and crafting everything from the cabinets to the automated futon to the color scheme.

Features of the Airstream include formica countertops and seating, a custom-made automated futon, custom walnut cabinets, custom-made dual-glazed windows, custom no-VOC paint, genuine maple veneer flooring, a custom pocket door, and new halogen lighting throughout.

As far as appliances go, the Airstream has been outfitted with a new AC unit, an on-demand water heating system, stainless steel appliances, and JBL 5.1 Surround Sound with iPod input in a desk drawer.

You can find out more about the project here. But before you check out all of the details, watch a video featuring the Airstream when you read more.
