Cool Idea: Library Furniture For the Home

Craftster member Summerswann has a talent for seeing a diamond in the rough. Such is the case with her recent secondhand acquisition, a library card catalog. She writes, "While at my very favorite thrift store I spied this section of vintage library card catalog. It was very stained and faded, as if it had been sitting outside for years, but for $7 I knew I had to have it!"

She took it home and gave it a good cleaning and sanding. To see how she adapted it for her home,

.

After staining the card catalog, Summerswann added four mid-century modern-style metal table legs, and now has an inexpensive and very cool coffee table for her living room. What a great upcycling project! I'm always so inspired to see people creating beautiful things on a budget.

To get the full story about Summerswann's project, check out her post on Craftster.

Totally impressive. I am jealous of your ability to see beyond the intention of product. AND, you did a fabulous job fixing it up!

I LOVE that. I've been wanting to repurpose a card catalog for a while because I worked in a library and find them cute and a little nostalgic.

We have CD cabinets that look like card catalogs, but they were kinda expensive.

I'm so jealous of that seven dollar price tag! Where I live they're popular so it'd run me at least ten times that.

I love this! It looks great and it's perfect for storing things you use frequently, but don't want just sitting out.
