Cute Ideas For Housewarming Gifts

Open House: What's Your Favorite Housewarming Gift?

Sayonara Veuve Clicquot. There's a new gift in town. A bottle of champagne, a plant, or a new set of dishes all might find their way into the open arms of a housewarming hostess. When I moved into my first apartment, it seemed booze was the party favor of choice. Now that I'm a little bit older and hopefully more mature, the gift wrap is no longer purchased at the liquor store. On my most recent move, my friends were generous enough to show up with waffle mix, monogrammed pots, and a personalized stamp with my new address on it. Just because I use it so much, I do believe the stamp is my favorite loot of the lot.

What's the best housewarming gift you've ever received? Tell me in the comments below!

Housewarming gifts can be small as a great array of pot holders, and dish soap. If they are an avid gardener, maybe some house plants. Any house warming gift should include something to welcome them to their new home.

A picnic basket with plates, glasses, and napkins. We actually use it more often than I would have ever imagined.

One really sweet item I received was a personalized rubber stamp and inkpad from a website called thepaperwink.com - it's my name and my new address. The first thing I used to for was all my thank-you notes!

For housewarming gifts I like stuff that is "consumable" like food, wine or flowers. These types of gifts are great because they don't create clutter- frankly by the time my husband and I bought our house we already had enough "stuff." I think it's also really thoughtful when people give small personalized items- we got monogrammed soaps and personalized handtowels as house-warming gifts.

All of my housewarming gifts were good, especially since they were unsolicited (my husband and I never expect gifts, nor had gift registeries). In fact, we generally excuse people from giving gifts to us when we're asked about what's on our wish-list (like for our birthdays, our wedding, etc). That's how we are. Besides, my husband and I can afford anything we want (and we would have already purchased it). :) However, this does not stop some of our thoughtful family members and friends. Some of the gifts that touched me were gift cards to my favorite furniture stores and plant nurseries. I thought it was sweet that they noticed my favorite stores, without my mentioning it, and gave me some generous gift cards. Very thoughtful and observant of them. In my response, whenever I spent their gift card, I would have them over for a party to show them how their card went to good use. :)
