DIY Neon Shelves

Cool Idea: Highlight Your Shelves With Neon

If you're looking to add contrast to your shelves, you might want to consider this colorful option. Sure, slabs of reclaimed wood can be nice, but if it's a modern tone you want to set, why not go neon?

We first fell for the idea when we toured this bedroom designed by Emily Mughannam for the San Francisco Decorator Showcase. The neon shelves perfectly suited the playful, color-happy vibe of this teen-inspired bedroom.

It wasn't until we saw Emily use the same shelves in a more buttoned-up setting that we realized she was on to something. In a living room that looks like it might belong to a globe-trotting sophisticate, Emily replaces boring white shelves with her signature neon — and somehow, it works.
