I fell in love with this painting at Crate and Barrel last week. It would be perfect for our mantel but it's way too big. After dreaming of this painting all night I decided to take matters into my own hands. It was time to get creative and try out my painting skills. After a quick stop at the craft store I had my blank canvas. Keep reading to see the final result!
I used some leftover Olympic paint samples in various tones of off-white and tan that we had stashed in the basement so I didn't even have to buy paint. I began by barely mixing the colors and painting thick stripes on the canvas. The result was a little blurry and muddled. I thought it looked pretty neat but the painting blended into the fireplace. My next idea involved using a piece of string to apply stripes to the already coated canvas. This was even more fun! And the result was much better than anything I could achieve with a brush.
I can't say I achieved anything close to the look at Crate and Barrel. But I had a lot of fun trying!
