DIY: Tree Branch Curtain Rod

This DIY tree branch curtain rod project doesn't seem like most original idea ever. But actually, I've never seen it done before; it looks rustic-chic; it achieves that branches trend; and it's super easy to pull off. Here are the steps, according to do-it-yourself:

  1. Find a tree branch slightly wider than your window trim.
  2. Use pruning shears to remove long twigs, but leave a few stubs for character.
  3. Spray-paint the branch or leave it natural.
  4. Choose tie-top curtain panels, which allow you to adjust for the curves of the branch—no clips or rings needed.

So, just a suggestion on this... use pull back if you need/want to open the curtin

I like the idea - and I really like cindermom's idea of tie-backs in a similar form. I also really like resurrectedred's idea of using them over a headboard - that's a great thought!

i love this idea and have found some great branches and put them over my windows. But finding tie-top curtains can be a real pain. Does anyone have any suggestions?

i really love this look. It would only work on a window that i didn't need to close though.

Looks nice, especially painted like that. I don't think I'd be so into it if it hadn't been painted.

being a landscape architect, i absolutely love this idea. sure, it's not totally functional if you use your windows, but i can see this idea in a valance or even on top of a four post bed! Bring nature inside the house, a great and inspiring idea!

This is gorgeous, Casa! And now that my Roman blinds are all but useless, maybe I can bring myself to make this!

I like it, but only if you aren't planning on closing your curtains.

I agree with Esix. It's difficult to close the drapes. Form follows function.

I really like this project. Too bad my windows are huge. I don't think this would look as cool over a wide window.

It looks nice against the dark wall color.

Hmmm I actually really just like those curtains...wonder where they are from....

You could just spray a clear coat of varnish on it to seal it up from rotting or anything.

I got all excited when I saw this. But then again, I'm wondering if it's just one of those things that just look good somewhere else and not actually in YOUR home. What happens when the branch starts to get really dry? Trees and outdoor stuff makes me think of bugs too. I don't know. This does look super cute in the pic though.

That is such a cute idea!! It really is more for the look than the function...I love it!

Right, it's definitely not the thing to do on a window where you frequently open and close the drapes...but on those windows where curtains are a decorative thing anyway, I think that the fact that the curtains wouldn't hang perfectly straight is part of the charm. Personally, I think it looks great.

Esix you raise some great points but I still think it's neat.

Uhm and how are you supposed to close the drapes? Let alone make 'em hang straight. Fail
