Decorating After the Holidays

What's Your Postholiday Decorating Approach?

If you didn't already pull down your Christmas decorations over the weekend, most of you will likely be un-decking the halls in your home very soon. But when you're used to plenty of holiday sparkle around the house, an undressed home can look pretty sparse and depressing. I vary my approach from year to year; sometimes I go with a neutral Winter theme, sometimes I add bright new accessories to liven things up, and sometimes I just let my home revert to its preholiday style. How do you handle decorating after the holidays are over?

I usually leave up a few things that are not as Christmasy but still wintery but put most things away the week after Christmas. I try not to start the new year with my tree still up!

For the most part, my home goes back to normal after the holidays (I just took down my decorations last night). But to be honest, I usually get a few home decor gifts for Christmas, so those are always integrated and make things look fresh! I'm also usually on a shopping binge with all the sales around this time, so I wind up buying even MORE things for my house!

Honestly, we keep the tree up pretty long. I'll take it down mid-january this year, but last year we kept it up till February. It's festive, lighting it up is great mood lighting, and who wants to do all that work for one month!? We'll take it down soon, making me excited to plan on how to decorate the mantle this year..!

I like to do a winter decor with a bit of a peek of spring. I have some daffodil bulbs in glass containers, which will be blooming near the end of January. (right about the time I am getting tired of winter and need something to perk me up)
