Decorating With Patterns, Patterned Textiles, and Patterned Upholstery

Do You Love Pattern?

The living room of designer Sig Bergamin’s sunny Brazilian home, which was featured in Elle Decor, is bursting at the seams with pattern. There's the beaded African armchair, a wide-striped rug, a Suzani draped over the sofa, ikat ottomans, a paisley frame, a plethora of patterned throw pillows, an exotic lampshade, and more! It works because the walls are white and room is flooded with light, but too much pattern can be dangerous sometimes. You've got to have that decorator touch to pull it off, I guess.

Tell me: do you love lots of pattern or do you prefer solids?

I like patterns, but can really only handle two in a room. And to get those two was a struggle with my husband — he's all about solids.

That's a little too much! Very busy. I think they call it eclectic???

I love pattern, and our home is evidence of that. One thing that helps to keep pattern working well in a home is by reducing other visual clutter — keep media, knickknacks, and other pieces carefully edited. Anyone else have tips for making multiple patterns work in the same space?
