Desire/Acquire: Boardwalk Side Table

I spotted these Boardwalk Side Tables ($640) at Garnet Hill and loved their cheerful hues, but was astounded to see that they cost over $600 each! "Are they made of gold?" I thought. Nope. Just solid poplar and maple. According to the product description, each table is individually built by "an experienced craftsman," but still — absurd! The tables are cute and classic, but they don't even have drawers or any other feature that makes them worthy of the steep price tag. And I would imagine one would eventually tire of the color, and want to switch things up.

Luckily, this table is an easy peasy DIY. Want to see a very similar table that costs under $40?

World Market's Chloe Accent Tables ($30-40) have the same classic shape as the Boardwalk Side Table, and they're made of solid rubberwood. Spend $10 on a couple of paint samples, and you can color them in any hue you like. Put that $600 toward a pair of Louboutins!

I appreciate an "experienced craftman" but $640 is way too much to pay for a small table like this. I think I might follow partysugar to World Market to get a couple of those $40 tables. Four of them, either in the same size or different sizes, put together in a corner with various plants, books and treasures, would look nice, I think.
